Joint Commission International
Comments: An non-profit accreditation organization that reviews hospitals in Latin America, Europe, Mid-East, and Asia. The JCI assesses healthcare organizations' compliance with standards that enforce high quality health services and increase patient safety. The website has a search engine to find international hospitals accredited by JCI.
Medical Tourism Association
Comments: A non-profit association consisting of hospitals, healthcare providers, insurance companies, medical tourism facilitators, and other individuals involved in medical tourism industry. The association produces the bi-monthly Medical Tourism Magazine. MTA is working to improve the "transparency, communication, and education" of medical tourism.

Global Protective Solutions
Comments: A company that offers travel and medical accident policies to individuals undergoing medical and surgical treatments outside of their native country. It also offers liability insurance to self-insured employers who wish to implement a global healthcare benefit for their employees.
 Medical Tourism Facilitators
BridgeHealth International
Comments: A well-established medical travel facilitator that coordinates travel to healthcare providers in several foreign countries as well as the United States. The company has a highly qualified management staff and contracts with several US health insurers, employers, and third party administrators to provide access to their network of hospitals and physicians. Also, BridgeHealth does not charge individuals for its services.
Companion Global Healthcare
Comments: Medical travel facilitator located in South Carolina that arranges for medical tourism to hospitals that are accredited by Joint Commission International. The provider network pages of the Companion Global Healthcare website compares costs of surgical procedures in the Southeastern US to its network hospitals.
MedRetreat
Comments: The Managing Director of MedRetreat co-wrote "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Medical Tourism." MedRetreat offers Gold Gold Membership for expedited member attention and access to additional support services. Also offers live chat room to discuss questions regarding medical tourism and services offered by MedRetreat.
Placid Way
Comments: Medical travel facilitator with an excellent website. It offers search engines for selecting surgical procedures and wellness programs in multiple world regions. Provides detailed information about facilities, physicians' qualifications and bios, and prices. Placid Way also offers pre-packaged health treatment tours and listings for stem cell therapies.
Planet Hospital
Comments: One of the first medical tourism facilitators that receives considerable media coverage. It coordinates travel to hospitals in Asia, Europe, and Latin America for a broad number of procedures, including elective, heart, cosmetic, orthopedic, and dental. Planet Hospital offers varying levels of support, including a program called Best Of Both Worlds Network®, in which a patient can elect to have a US surgeon fly with him to a foreign hospital to perform the surgery, and then return to the US with the patient to continue the post surgical care. Website needs to be updated, in particular the physician profiles.
WorldMed Assist
Comments: Offers common sense, easy to navigate website with straight forward description of the medical tourism process along with a list of frequently asked questions. WorldMed Assist coordinates travel to hospitals located in India, Mexico, Turkey, Belgium, and Costa Rica, all of which have undergone site visits by the facilitator and are affiliated with US hospitals. All care is coordinated by registered nurses.

Comments: A social networking site for medical tourism that is affiliated with the Medical Tourism Association. The site offers a chat room, blogs, discussion forums, member pages, and videos. A good starting place to learn about medical tourism and to post questions to individuals working in the field.
